Qld Mid Amateur Championship

09 September 2019

There was no relief for the players from the tough conditions on the final day. Strong, cool winds combined with the slick tricky greens saw the winner come in at 7 over par, around 10 shots more than the expected score.

Congratulations to David Fahey whose final round 83 disappointed him and dropped him to equal 10th, but was enough to secure him the best championship net score.

Dean Dunleavy’s 76 saw him climb four places to finish 6th, eight shots behind the winner. Steve Johnston his best score of 77 which saw hip jump 14 places to finish tied in eighteenth place.

Patrick McEwen finished with an 88 to be tied seventy first while Scott Karandrews’ 93 lifted him to a tie for one forty second.

The teams event, best three net scores from a team of 4, was won by REDCLIFFE. The team comprised Dean, David, Steve and Patrick  (who was absent from presentations)

Well done to all five Reddies who proved great representatives in the tough event

On a brute of a day at Royal Pines, David Fahey has moved into a tie for 7th place 6 strokes off the lead which is not impossible with tomorrow's increased wind forecast.

Dean is just 2 shots further back after an unusual score of 81 today. Steve Johnston improved 5 shots even with a triple among the trees on 15. His 79 sees him tied for 32nd.

Patrick Mcewen's 86 moved him to 72nd spot and Scott Karandrews is in 148th place after 93 today.

An interesting finish is looming tomorrow.

A tough day at Royal Pines which saw just 2 players break par in the field of 210.

Of the Reddies, Dean Dunleavy shot 72 to be tied 6th. David Fahey had 76 and is equal 10th while Patrick McEwen's 83 has him in 67th place.

Steve Johnston returned 84 to be equal 81st and Scott Karandrews had 89 to be tied for 134th.

Round 2 is under way.

The Qld Mid Amateur Championship will be held at Royal Pines on the 8th, 9th and 10th of this month with morning and afternoon shotgun starts each day. The 54 hole event always draws a top field and has proven popular with Redcliffe golfers.

This year we wish the best of fortune to: David Fahey, Dean Dunleavy, Scott Karandrews, Steve Johnston and Patrick McEwen.
