Qld Mid Amateur

11 September 2017

Redcliffe Steps Forth.

While not collecting the major title, Redcliffe players certainly drew attention to themselves in the field of 224 at the Qld Mid Amateur Championship played at the difficult Royal Pines layout..

Tony Summerfeldt , who won his second long drive award, returned a very tidy 74 to finish on 227, nine shots behind the leader. Also tied on that score in fourth place was Steve Johnson who finished with a four over 76. The third player on the same score was Dean Dunleavy whose two late birdies helped overcome three doubles in his 77.

David Fahey carded an 82 for a 244 total and in a tie for 35th. Gavin Holdway stumbled to an 88 to finish tied for 91st place on 256 while David Van Praagh's closing 88 saw him finish tied for 109th. Andrew Phillips will long remember his final hole quadruple bogey which gave him an 89 and left him tied for 134th place.

Unfortunately, (some players might say, "fortunately), Aron Mason was called to work and missed the final lap.

The boys had a good time and were wonderful representatives of the club. Well done!

Reddies Still in the Hunt.

Another tough day at Royal Pines but Redcliffe still has representatives in with a chance of the title. The leader, Mathew Walkenhorst from Headland, sits on 146 just 4 in front of Dean Dunleavy who added a 77 to yesterday's 73. Steve Johnson is just 1 shot further back, tied for 5th, following today's 78. Tied for 7th on 153 is Tony Summerfeldt who also had 78 today.

David Fahey had 82 to be in a tie for 40th on 162, Gavin Holdway is tied for 69th after today's 85 following an opening 83. A dose of the "dreaded lurgy" didn't stop David Van Praag improving 9 shots for an 82 to be tied 115th, while Aron Mason and Andrew Phillips both improved for 88s to be on 178 and 179 respectively.

Fingers crossed for the final round tomorrow.

"Red" hot start to Mid Am

Redcliffe was in good form on day 1 of the Qld Mid Amateur Championships at Royal Pines.

Only a late round of 71 relegated both Steve Johnson and Dean Dunleavy into a tie for 2nd on 73 after a testing day on the Gold Coast.  Long drive winner, Tony Summerfeldt, is in 6th place after a 75.  David Fahey's 80 sees him in 38th position while Gavin Holdway is around 70th after his 83.

Not faring quite so well was Aron Mason (158th/90) and Andrew Phillips and David Van Praagh who are at 167th after carding 91s.

Good luck on Monday boys!
