Some wonderful results came out of last weekend’s NT Women’s and Girls’ Open. Ellen Davies-Graham finished 2nd in the championship while Kirsty Hodgkins finished 5th. Kirsty’s result placed her 3rd in the Girls’ Championship.
Congratulations girls on fantastic results.
It was good to see Taylor Macdonald back at the weekend. Following success in the Interstate teams event recently, Taylor has been selected in a Golf Australia team to contest 2 events in Malaysia. We wish him all the best for those events and will follow his progress closely.

What Courage!
In the first round of the Easter tournament John Campbell overcame extreme adversity to return a great net 67.
He was struck by a stray ball on the practice fairway prior to teeing off. On the 4th his carry bag was hit by another ball. While in the trees on the 10th, a snake fell onto his bag and tried to gain entry.
Feeling safe and within sight of home from the 17th, another snake reared up at the now fragile golfer. To return such a great score showed something special.
Well done John!!
These youngsters certainly live in a different golfing world to most of us.
After the final 2 rounds, Kirsty Hodgkins finished tied for 10 in a field of 60 with an average of 4.5 over par for the 4 rounds. What a great effort for this 15 year old! Even so, Kirsty finished 31 shots behind the winner who is ranked No.3 junior in the world.
We wish Kirsty all the best as she moves to the interstate junior matchplay series.
Doug Klein maintained his 6 over par score through the final 2 rounds to finish in 25th position in a field of over 130. What a super effort! Doug was only 22 shots behind the winner on -16!!
Well done to our 4 juniors and thanks to Brian Swan for taking the boys on this trip. What an experience!

“The Treasurer has formed a small Sub-Committee to help progress a number of initiatives to enhance the Club’s financial position and is looking for an additional member or two to assist. The sub-Committee will most likely meet monthly and involve members in a couple of hours of additional volunteer time each month, depending on what the priorities are from time to time.
The types of skills and experience that would be most useful include contract and service provider negotiation, retail marketing, web development and good understanding of small business processes.
If you’ve got any of the relevant skills and would be happy to contribute a few hours a month to assist, please contact Stephen Spiller on 0412 656 250 or let the office know of your interest.”

Listed below are suggestions placed in the suggestion box and their reply:
Suggestion: Could we please level out those bunkers that slope downwards (the near side right hand bunker on the 5th) is an example. I realise that bunkers are hazards but a player should be given a chance to get out with a well played shot
Reply: A new Greens Director has been appointed at the AGM and will be working closely with the greens superintendent. The bunkers are on their agenda to be looked at over the next couple of months.
Suggestion: Blowing leaves off greens in 30-40 knots is a waste of time.
Reply: It is imperative that the leaves are blown off the greens prior to mowing.
Match Committee Update
Thanks for Your Courtesy.
Of the 444 withdrawals from fields during November, only 3 failed to advise the club. This is quite an improvement on previous months. Thanks a lot!
All the best to the finalists in the Junior Championship and Plate to be played on Sunday 9.12.12 at 9.00am. If the golf during the semis was an indication then the finals will be well worth going out to watch.
Big fields and a tough set up during the first two rounds of the Summer Cup have seen the rounds take well in excess of four and a half hours. Please be aware of your situation and if you have lost ground, make an effort to catch up. If you lose a ball and the group behind are ready – CALL THEM THROUGH! You will be applauded not criticised.
The Match Committee appreciates your assistance.

Pace of Play.A particular project during the year was endeavouring to improve the pace of play. This was necessary as a number of groups at the end of the field were taking over 5 hours to finish after being delayed for up to 45 minutes in hitting off.
One study recognised that the worst delays occurred at the second, third, fourth and eighteenth holes. Perhaps only a confirmation of what we all knew.
A concentrated effort from the Pro Shop, and our members, has seen the delay at the first tee greatly reduced. Shortly we are to trial a “call up” for the second shot on the fourth. It will be interesting to see if that improves things or creates other problems.
Committeemen have been doing some marshalling of a Saturday and this has a great effect on most groups. We can all drop some ground, the main thing is to then make a proper effort to make it up. It is hoped that in the next year we can get some extra help in marshalling so that all parts of the day are covered.
A Pace of Play schedule was prepared by a member of the GQ Tournament Support Group and indicated that a round at Redcliffe should be completed in 4 hours and 27 minutes. This is not the target but the maximum.
Thanks to all members who completed a record of their round, especially to Shane Kruger whose comments were so vivid that it was like having a virtual round. They were so life like that by the comment at the 17th I was reaching for my wallet. Thankfully the match finished square.
Thanks to all members who are making an effort to ensure that everyone gets around in reasonable time.

SHOULD I HIT A PROVISIONAL???
Another way to maintain the pace of play is to hit a provisional ball.
A provisional ball is one hit when the original ball MAY be lost outside a water hazard or be out of bounds. If you have hit left off the 4th tee, right off the 6th tee or right off the 18th tee, it might be best to hit “a provisional.” This will mean not having to return to the tee when the ball can’t be found.
The ball hit left from the 4th can only be in the water hazard if there is sufficient evidence that it has entered the hazard. Did someone see it go in? Was there a splash? If you don’t know where it went after hitting a tree, it cannot be assumed it went into the water.
You must advise your marker that you intend hitting a provisional ball before you hit by using the words “provisional ball” or that you intend invoking Rule 27-2a.
Comments such as;
“That might be lost, I’m going to re-load.”
“That might be out of here. I’d better hit another one.”,
“I’ll never find that one. I’ll play another.”,
do not satisfy the requirements of announcing a provisional ball. (Decision 27-2a/1)
By doing this you show consideration to other players.
Thank you

THE FIRST TEE…………..
Two things that will help the field get away on time.
1. YOU can: – move to the tee as soon as the preceding group has cleared the area and ensure that the first player to hit off is ready when they are out of range.
2. THE STARTER will: – expect that all players have registered 12 minutes prior to the booked tee time. OTHERWISE YOU ARE LATE!
If the tee is vacant, a group could be called early and directed to proceed without the late player. If possible, a place will be found for the player later in the field. If you might be late, please contact the pro shop and if arrangements can be made, they will be.
Thanks for your help.
Please be advised that the Practise Fairway will not be available to Members on Saturdays commencing 4.8.12 from 12 noon to 1.00pm as the Golf Professional will be conducting sub junior clinics
The following is the Course Superintendent’s Run Sheet for August
2nd: Fertilise Tees
6th :Spike greens – apply calcium
7th: Fertilise grees – foliar
16th: Fertilise greens – soils
20th: Fertilise greens – foliar spray for crowsfoot
In an effort to minimise instances of slow play, the committee requests that you record the start and finish times for your round from this Saturday 28th July and Saturdays and Wednesdays through August and September
Congratulations to Taylor Macdonald
Taylor Macdonald has shown why he plays off a handicap of +6 by taking out the 2012 Wayne Grady Cup held at Virginia Golf Club on Sunday 1st July. MacDonald finished with scores of 66-69-135 to hold off the fast finishing Daniel McGraw by a single shot. It was the narrowest margin of victory since the event began in 2009.
The 20-year-old Macdonald is one of Queensland’s top amateurs and a worthy champion. As a junior, he notched up wins in the Gary Player Classic and the Greg Norman Junior Masters. He was a member of the Queensland men’s team in 2011 and 2012 and recently won the E.G. Oxenford Plate at Redcliffe with a sensational round of 65.
He had a strange start to the day however. Thinking the shotgun began at 7:30am, MacDonald casually turned up a half-hour beforehand. He was surprised to learn it was actually a 7am start and his group was waiting for him on the 1st tee. Without a warm up or a practice putt, he chalked up 6 birdies en route to a first round of 66 (5 under). It gave him a two shot lead over fellow Queensland team members Daniel McGraw and James Gibellini.
With the course still wet after heavy midweek rain, MacDonald’s length off the tee was a huge asset. He was continually bombing drives down the centre of the fairway and it left him with some short approaches to Virginia’s long par 4s. Three birdies in the afternoon saw him post a round of 69 – good enough for the victory.
Redcliffe defeats Brisbane in Senior Club Challenge to keep title hopes alive.
The win against Brisbane gives Redcliffe a chance of winning its group if it can win its final two matches which are both away. One of these away matches is against Sanctuary Cove next week which will be a difficult assignment.
Redcliffe’s main challengers are Brisbane and Sanctuary Cove and its final 3 rounds are away matches against Sanctuary Cove and Royal Queensland as well as a bye between the two matches
Brisbane’s final 3 rounds are against RQ and Nudgee at home and Sanctuary Cove away.
Sanctuary Cove’s final matches are Redcliffe and Brisbane at home and a bye.
Redcliffe’s next opponent is Sanctuary Cove at Sanctuary Cove on Tuesday 19th June at 11.15 am. This is a “must win” if Redcliffe is to be a chance of winning its group.

Redcliffe narrowly loses first match of 2012 Senior Club Teams Challenge
Redcliffe played its first match of the season against Nudgee on a damp Nudgee golf course and lost 4 to 2. The result in the other Group 2 match between Royal Queensland and Sanctuary Cove was a 3 all draw.
The individual match results were as follows:
Trevor Pryor defeated Grahame McDonald 4 and 3
Terry O’Keeffe lost to Steve Rowley 4 and 3
Tom Truman lost to Alan Davies 3 and 2
Morgens Andersen defeated Glen Daniels 5 and 4
Max Misso and John Singleton lost to Peter Raverty and Dale Kurz 3 and 2
John Jayo and Bob Jones lost to Paul Sutton and Joe DePasquale 1 down
Trevor Pryor did well to beat Grahame McDonald as Grahame is a nationally ranked senior player and has won state senior titles in the past. Trevor has now beaten Grahame the two times he has played him.
Morgens Andersen also played very well to easily win. This was Morgens’ first match representing Redcliffe along with 3 other first timers in John Singleton, John Jayo and Bob Jones.
This week’s match is at Brisbane Golf Club on Thursday at 12.15 pm and the team is as follows:
Morgens Andersen, John Jayo, Bob Jones, Max Misso, Terry O’Keeffe, Trevor Pryor, John Singleton
and Tom Truman.

Last year Redcliffe won its group and then made it to the Grand Final where they lost to a very strong Coolangatta Tweed Heads team.
The Redcliffe squad for the first match against Nudgee is Max Gabriel, John Jayo, Bob Jones, Max Misso, Terry O’Keeffe, Trevor Pryor, John Singleton and Tom Truman.

Redcliffe pennants team narrowly loses at Gailes
The Redcliffe Pennants team has suffered another narrow loss at Gailes in its final match of the year. This was a do or die match if we were to remain in Division 2, and in spite of a great effort, especially by the Junior grade, Redcliffe will be playing in Division 3 next year.
The overall results was 9 to 12 made up of 8 wins, 2 squared and 11 losses. In the other Division 2 fixture, Nudgee defeated Keperra by 11 to 10 to take out the Division 2 title.
Nudgee’s win against Redcliffe at Redcliffe probably clinched the title for them and also resulted in Redcliffe finishing at the bottom of the table. Nudgee’s was the only away win for the season in Division 2.
In Sunday’s match, Gailes won the Open and Masters grades with Redcliffe winning the Junior grade.
The result in the Open Grade was 3 wins, 1 squared and 7 losses.
The Masters Grade result was 1 win, 1 squared and 3 losses.
The Juniors Grade result was 4 wins and 1 loss.
The individual results were as follows:
Open Grade
Taylor McDonald defeated Dan McGraw 1 up
Steven Johnston lost to Darren Kadusi 2 & 1
Dean Dunleavy lost to Stuart Loughrey 3 & 2
Brad Dagan lost to Andrew Jackson
