DOROTHY BANKS CHARITY DAY

TUESDAY October 3rd is our annual DOROTHY BANKS CHARITY DAY.  We are again fundraising for the Pink Ribbon division of the Queensland Cancer Council.  Pink Ribbon help fund research and give support to women with breast and gynaecological cancers.

The Committee will be having a large raffle and are seeking your support with donations of prizes.  A guide would be anything you would be happy to win yourself.  New items only please.  These can be left in the Ladies Lounge area.

We are also asking for donations of food on the day for morning tea.  Sweet or savoury.  If you are able to incorporate the PINK theme that would be wonderful.

Thank you in anticipation of your support for this enjoyable day.

DON’T FORGET TO WEAR SOMETHING PINK!

The Ladies Committee.

Pennant v Caddy day is Thursday, August 24 and we would love to have as many players and caddies plus morning tea helpers to join us for this fun day.  Lunch will be provided following play.  Our much loved friend the late Daphne Faithfull has sponsored prizes for the day.

Suggestions/ideas for a Presentation night theme are welcomed.  Please pass your thoughts on to one of the Committee.

As always, your Committee welcomes any feedback or ideas you have.  Feel free to approach us.

Thank you to all our ladies for making our visitors feel so welcome on Open Day.   Although the stormy weather caused an early halt to play there was still a great atmosphere in the club house during lunch and the fashion parade.

Pennant competition commences for Divisions 1 and 3 on Friday April 28.   Divisions 5 and 7 will commence their competition on Friday June 16.  We are seeking ladies who are interested in both playing and caddying for all Divisions.  Handicap ranges are set by the BDLGA as follows:

        Division 1.  -  GA up to 16

        Division 3.  -  GA 10 to 22

        Division 5.  -  GA 18 to 28

        Division 7.  -  GA 22 to 36

Playing or caddying in Pennants is a wonderful way to improve your own game by experiencing other courses playing conditions and observing shots and techniques used by players throughout their round.  There is always a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere at all clubs.

If you are interested in being involved in Pennants this year please write your name on the appropriate sheet pinned to the notice board in the ladies lounge.  Feel free to approach the Committee if you would like any further information.  We welcome your participation.

The Ladies Committee.

Please invite your golfing friends to our annual Dorothy Banks Charity Day being held on October 4.  This year, we are again supporting the Pink Ribbon Foundation of the Qld Cancer Council.  This organisation raises funds for breast and women’s cancers.  We have all been touched in some way by these diseases and your support for the day will be greatly appreciated.  The Ladies Committee is asking for donations for the raffle.  As a guide, anything you would be happy to win yourself will make a great prize.  New items only please.  These can be left in the ladies lounge the week before or brought in on the day.  We will be providing free morning tea to all players.  Donations of cakes etc would be appreciated and can be left in the ladies lounge on the morning.  Theme for the day is PINK so please try to wear something PINK.
As mentioned at presentations on Tuesdays, many of the Committee are retiring this year.  A position on Committee is a great way to meet other members and do your bit for our club.  A small time commitment is required each month to attend a meeting and prepare for our Challenge days etc.  You may be surprised how rewarding it is to try something different and learn a little more about how our ladies golf is run.  Please feel free to approach any of the Committee for further information.  Golfers of any grade are welcome.
Your competition fee for closing day on November 15 will be paid by Redcliffe Ladies Golf, in effect making this a free game for all players.  We are hoping this will encourage everyone to participate in this fun, Christmas themed day.
The theme for Presentation Night on November 22 is “Roaring 20’s”.  Check your local bargain shop for a few “20’s” accessories to compliment something you may already have in your wardrobe.
Happy golfing!

The never ending Summer weather kept our field numbers slightly down to start the year but recent weeks have seen our numbers back around 80.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Rules/Welcome night back on March 3.  We all enjoyed a relaxed social and informative evening.  There were numerous questions and much discussion that answered a lot of questions for us all.  It was particularly nice to see many of our new lady members attend.  It is hoped we can hold another night later in the year.

Friday April 1 sees the commencement of Pennants competition for Divisions 1, 3 and 5.  Good luck and thank you to all the players and their caddies and our volunteers organising morning teas for our 3 home games on April 1, 15 and 29.

Division 1 players are Kirsty Hodgkins, Melissa Weber, Jean Thomas, Natalie Turnbull, Claire Jackson and Lynne Matthew.  Natalie is Captain.

Division 3 players are Sandra Edmondson, Alison Greenhatch, Ruth Brown, Annie Brown, Annette Hendry and Helen Chittock.  Captain/reserve is Carole Alexander.

Division 5 players are Lorelle Pepper, Karen Nash, Alison Davies, Chris Sharpe and Paula O’Reilly.  Reserves are Vicki Pollock and Fay Baumann.  Captain is Robyn Pollock.

A friendly reminder to please send a thank you note to a sponsor if you are fortunate enough to win a prize on their day.  If you do win, please try to stay for the presentation if at all possible, to thank the sponsor in person.

If you wish to hire a motorised cart you will be asked to leave a driver’s licence/car keys or similar to be returned to you when you return the cart key.   These are placed in a separate safe cabinet to correspond with your cart number.  This is to ensure carts are not left with keys in them turned to the ON position which is important regarding the battery longevity.  Your co-operation and understanding will be greatly appreciated.

If you have any concerns please talk to a Committee member and we will do our best to assist you.  Your committee wishes you happy golfing.

Thank you to all our members who made such generous contributions to the Dorothy Banks Charity Day.  Our visitors were spoilt with delicious home baking, a warm sunny day and of course your friendly hospitality.  The committee is delighted to inform you that a cheque for $2000 has been sent to Pink Ribbon Fundraising in the Queensland Cancer Council.

Our official golfing year is rapidly drawing to a close with Closing Day, November 17, being an Irish Fourball Teams Event.  Please join in the Christmas theme for the day.  Don’t forget the AGM will be held at 2.15pm.  Nominations for committee close 4pm Tuesday October 27.  We welcome new or returning ladies from any grade of golf to join the committee.  If you’ve never been on committee before why not give it a go?  You’ll learn a lot about the club and golf but more importantly get to know so many of our great members.

Presentation night on November 24 will be a Hawaiian theme.  This can be as simple as wearing something floral or brightly coloured, or Hawaiian dress and accessories of your choice!   In order to keep the cost down The Committee is subsidising the night.   A two course meal will be served for $15 per member.  Come along and enjoy a relaxing night with your fellow golfers and friends!  We are happy to assist with table seating arrangements if you don’t have a group organised and hope to see many of you there.

Saturday 8th August 2015

The golfing year is moving quickly with the Club and Stroke Championships now behind us.  Tuesday the 11th we are hosting the Wantima Challenge with 35+ ladies expected to join us.  Following golf a roast lunch will be served for $13 per head.  Please wear your club shirt if you have one.

Thursday the 20th we travel to Headlands Golf Club for the annual Challenge.  If you are travelling by bus please pay Karen Nash $15 prior to the day.  $10 for your round of golf and $12 for a buffet lunch will be collected on the bus.  If you have ordered a cart please pay the pro shop directly upon arrival.  BUS DEPARTS AT 6AM.

Tuesday the 25th the 36 hole Foursomes and 18 hole Canadian Foursomes will be played in groups of 6 players.  Ready made lunches will be available to purchase.  To keep the field moving please restrict your lunch break to 20 minutes including a toilet stop.  Players not wishing to stop for a lunch break may play through.

The card readers are being reset on Tuesday mornings and have been cleaned.  Hopefully this may lessen the frequency of cards not being recognised.  Please be careful not to mark or write in the barcode area.  The office staff are aware of the problem and are happy to help you if you experience any problems.

Despite their best efforts our Bronze Pennant team were defeated by Keperra on Friday.  We are very fortunate to have Pam Lever, Patricia Wilson, Chris Sharpe, Christine Taylor, Donna Waite and Paula O’Reilly representing our club.  Good luck for your remaining matches.

Working Bee for Faithfull Gardens

A working bee has been organised to tidy up and weed the Faithfull Gardens for Thursday March 19 at 3 pm. It would be nice to have Daphne's garden looking in great shape as a final tribute to this great lady! Many hands make light work and any time you can spare would be appreciated. BYO gloves &  Garden tools.

Daphne's funeral is being held this Saturday the 7th March, 2015 at 10.30am at Traditional Funerals, Anzac Avenue.  There will be no wake held, but they will be having some food after the funeral at Traditional Funerals.

Wednesday 4th March 2015;

Our much loved friend, fellow golfer and matriarch of the club, Daphne Faithfull passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon March 3.  She was surrounded by her family and close friends.  Funeral arrangements will be posted here once known.  Rest in peace Daphne.  A life well lived.

A warm welcome back to you all.  It was wonderful to see so many ladies playing on our opening day and enjoying a glass of Schlumberger wine with lunch.  Thank you to everyone who has paid their trophy levy.  A friendly reminder to pay Karen if yours is still owing.

The new Mi Club booking system is easy to use and has been well received.  You may like to practice adding other players and guests on the practice time sheets.

Congratulations and good luck to Kirsty Hodgkins who will be representing Queensland in the Interstate Junior Series in South Australia in April.  Another wonderful achievement.  We all wish her well.

Please note a change to the Ladies Programme.

MARCH 31 – is now a 4 Ball Ambrose sponsored by the Dolphins Social Club.

MAY 12 – is now a Single Stableford.
